There are a variety of Reference Management Tools available.  RefWorks is the option that has been officially supported by the library, but there are other options, such as Mendeley and Zotero.

RefWorks is a web-based online research management, writing and collaboration tool which allows you to save citations to your own web-based database whilst reading articles for your research project. It is designed to help researchers easily gather, manage, store and share all types of information, as well as generate citations and bibliographies.  RefWorks is available to all Rhodes users through the University Library's subscription.

Mendeley is a free reference manager and academic social network that can help you organize your research, collaborate with others online, and discover the latest research.

Zotero [zoh-TAIR-oh] is a free, easy-to-use tool to help you collect, organize, cite, and share your research sources. It lives right where you do your work—in the web browser itself.

Welcome to RefWorks!

 is a web-based online research management, writing and collaboration tool. It is designed to help researchers easily gather, manage, store and share all types of information, as well as generate citations and bibliographies.  With RefWorks you can:

  • create your own database of references;
  • import references from textfiles, and RSS feeds
  • export references from article databases and from the Web;
  • share research with others; and
  • generate citations and bibliographies as you write.

Web-based means you can access RefWorks from any computer with internet access.

RefWorks is available to all Rhodes users through the University Library's subscription.
