New Students and Staff - Getting Started at Rhodes University Library: My Library Account & Off-Campus Access

On the Rhodes Library Website, click on My Library Account under Quick Links on the Left Hand side of the Page.  On the Library Account Login page, fill in the form as follows:

  1. Type your name and surname in the first box. Use the TAB button to go to the next box.

  2. Rhodes students use your student number starting with a 6 as library barcode number e.g.612M1234.

  3. Do not enter a PIN

  4. Click on Submit                                                         

      5.  On the next page type in a PIN of your choice: it can be any word, number

           or combination of the two, not longer than 8 characters, e.g. an4k8mw

      6.  Re-type your PIN in the last box.

        7.  Click on Submit.

If you do not have access please register here for your "My Library account

A personal identification number (PIN)  allows you to login into your personal library record so that you can:

  • login and view your loans and fines

  •  add preferred searches and reading lists

  • see your reading history if you activate the Opt-in option

  • and modify your PIN and email address.

YOU CAN DO ALL OF THIS IN RES or DIGS AND WHEN YOU ARE AT HOME DURING THE VACATIONS

Please Note : If you have difficulties in setting yourself up for off campus access, please email libloansupport@ru.ac.za with your details including your student number.

Rhodes off-campus access to the Research Databases

Most of the databases and e-resources provided at RUL might be available on the web; but they are NOT FREE.

If you are on-campus, your student status/Novell login will enable you to access these databases and e-resources. 

In order to access these databases and e-resources from off- campus, you will need to set up a My Library Account/PIN .

Certain databases may be accessed on campus only, due to publisher licensing restrictions. An example is Datastream.
