Rhodes Research Data: Senate Resolution

As per Senate resolution, the Rhodes University Library is mandated to identify, prioritise, lead and coordinate digitisation efforts centrally across the institution (with consideration for national and possibly international strategic partnerships and initiatives), and where required partner with units in terms of  project facilitation, including possibly project management, assistance with funding proposals, skilling of staff etc. The Library together with input from relevant stakeholders is also mandated to manage and customize the delivery platform for digital collections, for optimal discovery and accessibility of the digitised collections.

Rhodes University through the Rhodes Library Services and affiliated divisions and partners, create and acquire digitised versions of materials in support of the institutional vision. Digitisation initiatives at Rhodes University are mostly driven by the need to make primary and secondary resources accessible to the larger scholarly community in support of the research agenda, and to create surrogates of the original materials as a preservation strategy.

Rhodes Digital Commons (Research Data)

The Rhodes Research Data platform (Figshare software) supports mature working practices and policies regarding research data management across all Rhodes faculties and research institutes.

The success of the Rhodes Digital Commons (Research Data) relies largely on the adoption and ownership of this research practice by Faculty and the research community at Rhodes.

The process to deposit Research Data:

  • upload the Data and follow the pop-up prompts for metadata (describing data)
